Check blazers are undoubtably one of this season's “must haves” for your wardrobe, despite being one of the hardest to style. Precariously balanced between something you might wear to an 80’s business board meeting and effortless French girl chic, their oversized structure and bold print is a tricky one to master. But styled in the right way they can be the ultimate wardrobe staple! Keep on reading for my top tips on styling the check blazer.

Go Bold or Go Neutral

No prints, no intense texture, keep materials clean and the structure simple for your accessories to avoid dating your look. But colour? That’s where you can really play around. A bright red bag like this Red Leather Faye Backpack from Farfetch will add a burst of colour to a very neutral key piece. Whilst a nude, soft shade will let your check print shine. This small Chloe Pixie Bag from Farfetch is my go to for this look as it’s simple details and neutral shade make way for a few other bold details to be added in to this outfit.

A Statement Tee is Key

Statement T-Shirts look amazing with a check blazer which is why I went neutral on the accessories and wore this GANNI Harway Love Society tee from Farfetch. It adds a modern update to the look and catches the eye with the bold red lettering while still remaining minimal.

Choose Your Check

One of the most important details to consider before purchasing you check blazer is the shade and print. Do you want a smaller check, or larger check? Smaller can generally be more flattering, but larger really packs that punch, which is what a statement piece is all about. If you’re struggling to shake the

80’s vibes, a darker grey with a deep grey/black check will add a more modern twist to the look whilst also being more flattering on your shape. The cut is also worth baring in mind, something oversized on the shoulders or at the hem may need sizing down or styling with a slim fit jean. This Stella McCartney Double Breasted Blazer is my absolute favourite find of the season, and the fit is the perfect balance of oversized with a little structure - working perfectly with my favourite boyfriend jeans for and everyday, casual look that says a little more.
