Can I make a confession? I haven't worn nail varnish at all for the last few months. For some reason I haven't felt the temptation, not even to pull out a fancy glitter come festive celebrations back in December. I'm sure you're all recoiling in horror, but there's something to be said for a Plain Jane nail. One thing I have noticed unfortunately is the poor condition my nails have now fallen into through various knocks, scrapes and a general lack of attention on my part - you never realise how much protection those few coats of lacquer give.

Luckily there are a host of 'barely there' colours to suppress my appetite for an undressed nail while still keep things in check and glossy as I edge my way back into the polish wearing crowd. Essie (of course) do nudes very, very well. There must be over twenty different shades to choose from but my favourite picks come in the form of Ballet Slippers - a sheer wash of subtle pink that still lets the smile line show through and Topless & Barefoot - definitely on the opaque side but neutral enough not to cause any distractions.

Sally Hansen have also served up a cracker of a shade and my new favourite nail adornment - Peachy Keen. Always a lover of their treatments and top coats I've never actually tried a colour from the Complete Salon Manicure range but this slightly sheer yet buildable warm, creamy colour has impressed me with it's lasting powder and a brush that may just rival Essie's for a one sweep wonder.

Let's see how long this nude phase lasts before I'm back on the brights!
