It won't come as a surprise that I like to have a beauty product - or five, to hand when possible and if you were to take a quick tour of my home you'd more than likely find them occupying every flat surface available. They're often grouped in places I frequent the most and my desk where I spend the bulk of the day writing up posts, editing videos or just scanning endlessly though blogs (all in the name of research of course..) has turned into a buffet of beauty now neatly packaged in my very own personalised Muji draw thanks to the geniuses at Birchbox. Could I feel more fancy?

Hand cream is always an essential and my love for The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector is still going strong. The thickest, richest cream out there that hydrates like no other and still manages to sink in instantly leaving fingers grease free and ready for squirrelling away at those keys - I've even grown to like it's slightly funky smell. Still in the balm family but for times when I need to take the moisture up a notch, Weleda's Skin Food serves as the ultimate for dry cuticles, nobly elbows and any other areas that are calling out for hydration. Lip balm is also a must and after dabbling in a bit of Lanolips and pondering a purchase from By Terry its still the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm that has my heart. I've lost count of how may of these warm honey scented pots I actually own but when dry lips need immediate rescue, it doesn't come much better than this.

On days when I know I'll just pottering around at home I'll skip the make up step and amp up the skincare. My complexion has turned into quite the dry mess since the cold weather hit so I've been keeping Aurelia's Cell Repair Oil* at hand for hourly top-ups. Not only does this sample size come in the cutest little pipette equipped bottle, it offers up just the right amount of slick to massage into dry areas without leaving anything but a soft glow on my skin. Finish with a spritz of Caudalie's Beaty Elixir*, now in it's beautiful limited edition L'Wren Scott designed bottle, a refreshing and hydrating boost of sweet herbal mint. Sometimes I spray this liberally around the room to immerse myself in it's calming scent.

If things are getting to the point of complete near-breakdown however, eg. that video you spent three hours setting up and filming didn't record with sound - ouch, a pump of Origins Peace Of Mind dabbed behind the ears and on pulse points takes the stress levels down a few notches. I also like to bring this with me whenever I travel as not only does it aid in all kinds of transport induced sickness but also helps me relax in the occasional rush hour tube situations - the ultimate calming multitasked.

Throw in a sweet smelling candle and a stack of stationary - I'm always a sucker for the pastel hues of the Martha Stewart range, and I'm good to go for hours!

Today I've got three more Autumn nail polishes to induct into my ever growing collection of seasonal hues - which, might I add, is becoming worryingly larger by the day. These latest additions are from the Mavala A/W Sublime Line and come neatly packaged in a modest 5ml bottle as is standard with the whole range - definitely a plus for polish hoarders like myself who's tastes move on too quickly to ever actually finish a full size.

The shades include Poetic Rose*, a creamy take on it's namesake and a nice change from the dark berry tones I've adorning my fingertips with recently, Twilight Blue* a pure navy and my personal favourite of the bunch somewhat making up for a missed purchase of Essie's Limited Edition After School Boy Blazer and last of all Warm Grey*, a nude with an edge. I usually struggle to find neutral shades to suit me but this one pairs perfectly with my paler skin tone for a natural nail that has a hint of Winter depth about it.

The formulas are well pigmented and rich, becoming opaque in just two coats. They don't take long to dry either making for the perfect quick fix mani that can be popped in a bag for instant on the go nail assistance. The only problem? I'm now itching to see what else Mavala have to offer..

Move aside higher end, it's time for drugstore to take over and after a rather large splurge at Boots (how they love to tempt me with those 3 for 2 offers) I've found quite a few gems amid the sea of cosmetics. From the latest foundation offering from Bourjois to some festive glitter nail polishes and a whole lot more, the reasonably priced is seriously bringing it at the moment. I may have to go in for another round before the offer ends..

By now I'm sure my love for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders is well documented. Once a complete powder-phobe (mattified skin is really not my forte) I now can't seem to go a day without wearing my favourite all over setting shade - Dim Light. Undetectable on the skin it leaves the softest glow while keeping everything in place without a hint of cakeyness. The only set back of course is they eye-watering £38.00 price tag - ouch. One plus is that I've been using this non stop for months and by the looks of things have barely made a dent in it, but for those searching for a cheaper alternative in the luminising powder game, I think I've found a pretty good substitute.

Bourjois seem to be bringing out winner after winner when it comes to their new releases and one of my favourites so far this year has been the Java Rice Powder, which not only comes in just the darn prettiest little pot, it's also packed full of radiance. The first noticeable difference between the two is shot a of shimmer running through it as apposed to the sparkle-less 'gleam' of the Ambient Lighting Powder. Once dusted over the skin though (my brush of choice for both being the fluffy Real Techniques Powder Brush) this becomes undetectable, reflecting light and imparting a dewey looking glow which also works well as a highlight when applied more liberally to the cheekbones. I also find it to be slightly more shine-absorbing, lasting a few hours longer across my oily cheeks and nose.

If I had to pick just one, it would have to be Hourglass's offering - there's just something about that genius formula that can't be beaten, but Bourjois have served up some stiff competition which definitely takes the title of the best drugstore powder I've ever come across and at £9.99, it's a whole lot easier to stomach!

Now, I can't be the only one motivated to purchase a magazine I don't necessarily read by the odd freebie, but when something this good comes around (and world's biggest girl crush Scarlett Johansson just so happen to be gracing the cover) I have to stop myself picking up an armful of copies. Todays bargain comes from Marie Claire's December Issue which includes a full sized Rituals Sweet Orange & Cedar Fortune Scrub - plus and incredibly comprehensive 23 page spread all about skincare which is worth the buy in itself.

If a warm, cosy Autumn evening could be summarised in a scent then this would be it. Musky, but undercut with the sweetness of citrus it's definitely a fragrance that lingers long after you're towelled off and bundled in pyjamas. The formula is nice and grainy, suspended in a rich cream which packs in a deep exfoliation while moisturising dehydrated skin at the same time. Already the happy owner of the Rituals Fortune Oil* from the same range, these two work together as a shower dream team.

A freebie definitely worth the better-than-half-price splurge of £3.90 for the mag - on second thoughts, maybe I will nip back to Tesco before they're all gone!

It's rare for a brush to be added to my collection these days that isn't some kind of Real Techniques creation, so when two come along that have me passing over my normal multi-coloured array, it's definitely time to take note.

Zoeva have been popping up left right and centre at the moment, on blogs, hauls, tutorials you name it - they're using one. Thinking it would rude, of course, to ignore the signs any longer I went ahead and ordered the 127 Luxe Sheer Cheek Brush - one particular tool that I find Real Techniques (dare I say it?) could improve on. The natural bristles definitely trump synthetic when it comes to packing on the colour and blush comes out well pigmented with only one sweep. The angled shape also makes application a whole lot simpler, fitting the contour of the cheeks for a more natural blush shape. I could do with a handful of these actually as it makes light work of bronzer and highlight as well and it's certainly not too much of a purse-pincher at £9.50.

The second offering comes from Coco Beau, an online boutique which strives to stock only best of the best - definitely worth a good scroll with a cuppa'. The aptly named Big, Fat, Firm, Foundation Brush* is their signature tool and boy is it a chunky one. When it comes to applying foundation I like my brushes large so this fits the bill perfectly, the synthetic bristles smooth on product effortlessly - using the flat side to apply then the tip to buff in. I've also making the annual effort to use my much neglected Chanel Soleil de Tan and the flat edge makes light work of defining a perfect contour. It comes in at a slightly more eye-watering £29.75, but the quality is apparent (am I the only one that appreciates a good weighty brush?) and with a little care I can see this one sticking around for years to come.

Skincare isn't something I've covered much over the last few months. I'd fallen into a pretty safe routine that my skin and I were happy with but of course, the product junkie in me couldn't help but stray from what I knew and having slapped little but Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm on my face since I bought in bulk back in June, I started looking elsewhere in the cleanser department.

In the market for something just as hydrating but with less effort on my part in the mornings, I came across the Radical Skincare Hydrating Cleanser. This has a thin texture but wow, does it pack in the moisture. A pea sized amount massaged over skin and muslined off gives some serious plumpness without a drop of residue left over. It also contains almond milk, rich in vitamin E and green tea which act as soothing anti-inflametrys, the perfect cooling feel for that all too familiar just woken up, groggy skin.

I've also been setting down the Bioderma in favour of something a little richer pre-cleanse. Similar to an oil but more buttery, Clinique Take The Day Off is a scentless balm the gets to work on the bulk of unwanted make up ready for a more nourishing cleanse - perfect for my dehydrated Autumn skin and when teamed with Aurelia's Miracle Cleanser* it's Hydration Heaven. I've been reaching straight for this pretty little pot most nights down to it's beautifully relaxing 'yep, it's bed time' scent. It's thick and creamy texture definitely has a feel of Liz Earle Cleanse of Polish about it, only I notice the Miracle Cleanser sinks in further. Although it may not be a the best at make up removal, post-Clinique Balm it makes for a beautiful treat and I feel happy in the knowledge that it's probiotic technology and BioOrganic formulas are taking care of my skin the natural way.

I may not be quite ready to live a life without Emma Hardie, but when the time comes that I drain the last of my stocks, the dash to Space NK for a repurchase wont be quite as necessary now I've found some very worthy contenders for the top spot.

Rave of the Week: I'm sure this will come as no surprise to you all but since it's entrance through my letterbox at the beginning of the week, the Nars One Night Stand Palette hasn't left my cheeks. Made up of four blush colours, a bronzer and a highlighting powder it's everything you could need in one beautifully package. I pre-ordered mine after observing mass hysteria about it's release on Twitter and it predictably went into back order until December. I have however just had a peak at the Space NK website and things seems to be back in business, and with free shipping too. What more could you need to sway you!
